The procedure must be done every two years, at least, to preserve the material.
Did you know that maintaining a wooden door involves painting it at least every two years? This is when we talk about low-exposure environments, such as indoor ones, because doors exposed to weather conditions must be painted every six months to preserve them. The service is simpler than it looks, but we recommend you do not dispense specialized labor. Check out a step by step we had set up.
1. Choose the right paint.
Oil-based is the most suitable for painting doors indoors, as well as water-based enamel, which has no strong smell and dries quickly. Acrylic paints are diluted with water and can also be used on wood, preferably for outdoor areas.
2. Outline the painting area.
Use a painting tape or even masking tape to enclose the door and prevent paint from splashing over the wall paint. Also, don't forget to cover the floor.
3. Prepare the door.
In the case of new doors, it may be necessary to sand the surface until all the varnish is removed, preventing the paint from peeling and leaving quickly. Remove any dust residue with a damp cloth and apply a sealer to close the pores of the wood. Apply a base coat or primer to prepare the surface and correct minor imperfections.
4. Apply the chosen paint.
Follow the manufacturer's instructions, always paint in the same direction, and respect the drying time between coats. And don't be alarmed! Two or more coats will be required for the expected result. Despite having a more complex application, the enamel paint will compensate for durability and cleaning the doors.
